Deaf in the Developing World
According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are approximately 70 million Deaf people world wide. 80 percent of this 70 million live in developing countries. Most Deaf-and-hard of hearing people in developed countries have access to education, employment, technological devices such as hearing aids and cochlear implants, and the right to communicate in sign language, to some extent. This is not the case for those in developing countries as they are denied basic human rights such as food, water, sanitation and education.
